E-Learning courses are online courses on topics regarding settlement and integration in BC. This e-learning format allows learners to take the online courses at their own pace or, we recommend doing the courses as a group as well. Discussion questions are included that work well for both individual thought and group discussion. After taking each course, learners receive a certificate of completion.
Refugee Mental Health Front-line Workers Training
The training course identifies different refugee categories in Canada, stages of refuge and resettlement stress factors that contribute to mental health challenges for Refugees. It describes approaches and practical tools for assessing refugee trauma and addressing mental health needs. Pathways to Permanent Residence for Temporary Residents Settlement and Immigration supports are an essential component of BCSIS services. The e-learning course will provide front-line workers with an overview of federal and provincial immigration pathways. This will enable them to support their clients’ ability to succeed in immigration. The training will help differentiate the role and responsibilities of settlement workers versus immigration consultants and apply appropriate boundaries. Front-line Workers’ Training on Diversity and Inclusion BC Settlement & Integration Services (BCSIS) service providers must ensure that program staff is trained to provide services and support in a culturally appropriate manner. A Principles-based Approach to Supporting LINC Learners Training This course is a companion to AMSSA’s professional development Guide: A Principles-based Approach to Supporting LINC Learners. This course will help LINC teams work through the principles, approaches, strategies and resources suggested in the Guide. The objective of the course is to strengthen LINC teams through collaboration. This may be done individually with virtual team meetings. A checklist of learning tasks, case studies and additional resources as well as a script for deaf and hard of hearing users can be downloaded from within the course. Given the do-as-much-as-you-can chapter flexibility, there is no certificate for this course. Time: 3-5 hours/principle. Teams may jigsaw the principles or do one at a time.
