AMSSA is dedicated to providing resources related to Indigenous Truth and Decolonization for immigrant and newcomer serving agencies.
The final report of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada states, “Without truth, there can be no genuine reconciliation… Too many Canadians know little or nothing about the deep historical roots of these conflicts. This lack of knowledge has serious consequences for First Nations, Inuit and Metis peoples and for Canada”.
Since 2018, in collaboration with Indigenous leaders, AMSSA has developed numerous resources that are designed to increase awareness of Indigenous history, culture, rights, or perspectives among settlement staff.
The purpose is to support service provider organizations with the understanding that we are supporting settlement on unceded and occupied territories, as well as to introduce them to ways of relating to Indigenous people and how they can center Indigenous presence in their work and their connection with newcomers.
