Frontline workers in the sector can often encounter high-stress and emotionally challenging scenarios when supporting clients through their settlement journey. Burnout, vicarious trauma, and compassion fatigue are some of the key challenges that frontline staff may face as they carry out their daily work. When faced with such challenges in the workplace, it can be natural to seek support from those who are able to empathize with the nuanced and complex issues within this working context. This webinar addresses how peer support can play an important role for the settlement sector, as frontline workers can often face emotionally challenging situations when providing services to clients. The topics of burnout, vicarious trauma and compassion fatigue are introduced, and practical ways to carry out peer support within organizations were shared. The speaker who presented the webinar was from the Care to Speaker Program, a peer support helpline offered by the Canadian Mental Health Association – Vernon & District Branch.
