Newcomer fathers face many of the same settlement challenges as other newcomers, including employment barriers, language difficulties, and disconnection from community. At the same time, these experiences are often shaped by changing family roles, caregiving responsibilities, shifting expectations around fatherhood, and limited access to male-focused supports. Fathers arriving through temporary migration streams or refugee claimants may face additional pressures.
This webinar explored how settlement service providers can better understand and respond to the experiences of newcomer fathers in BC. It highlighted the connections between gender, systemic barriers, caregiving, and well-being, while offering practical approaches, tools, and frameworks to support newcomer fathers more effectively throughout the settlement journey.
