Settlement in Smaller Centres highlights the challenges and strengths of newcomers settling in smaller communities. In 2003, 10% of newcomers to British Columbia settled outside of Metro Vancouver. By 2013, that number grew to 14%. Newcomers in smaller centres face several key challenges, including employment, transportation, housing, and community integration. At the same time, newcomers in smaller centres are more likely to feel a strong sense of belonging. This 2016 video explored how three settlement agencies are supporting newcomers to thrive in smaller centres in BC’s Interior and North, as well as on Vancouver Island.
