E-Learning Course: Supporting Newcomers With Disabilities – A Training for Frontline Workers
Over the next two years, settlement service providers can expect increasing numbers of clients requiring support, with close to 500,000 newcomers expected to arrive in Canada each year. As people with disabilities make up more than 1/5 of the Canadian population, these immigration figures will likely include newcomers with disabilities.
Newcomers living with disabilities face unique barriers that impact their ability to settle and integrate into their communities. In multiple committee meetings and focus group sessions, AMSSA has heard from service providing organizations (SPOs) that they require more information on how to support clients living with disabilities.
This e-learning course, targeted to BC settlement service providers, is intended as a supplement to their existing training. It will provide front line workers with information to better understand the needs and challenges of clients living with disabilities.
