In this BCSIS E-Learning course, frontline settlement staff will gain a clear and comprehensive understanding of pathways to permanent residency for temporary residents.
Between 2022 and 2024, Canada aims to welcome 1.3 million permanent residents (PR). It is expected that current temporary residents will significantly contribute to these PR targets. Therefore, in recent years, to better enable the transition of temporary residents to PR, existing immigration policies, processes and regulations have been updated and several new pathways to PR have been created.
BCSIS settlement workers play an important role in the provision of immigration application information and referrals. Therefore, it is crucial they are aware of current immigration policies and regulations, as well as the scope of their role in supporting temporary residents in immigration pathways.
This course provides an overview of current immigration pathways and programs. In particular, the course outlines the pathways available to Temporary Foreign Workers and International Post-Secondary Students. It also delivers information on how immigration is managed in Canada and reviews application management systems, including Express Entry. Additionally, there id information on the new TEER system of job classification and 2021 National Occupation Classification System. The course also highlights special immigration pathways, including the new pathway to permanent residency for CUAET visa-holders. Additionally, the course outlines the roles and responsibilities of service providers in the context of immigration supports.
