On March 7, 2024, AMSSA is hosting the “Anti-Racism Foundations for Inclusive Communities” workshop for settlement service providers across BC. In this workshop, service providers will explore and identified examples of racism in Canada, how they affect the settlement and integration process, and their role in building an anti-racist settlement sector.
This session will equip participants to build on their expertise in the settlement sector, establish shared language for anti-racism work, identify racism, and identify their role in addressing racism all within the settlement sector.
To accompany the workshop, AMSSA has developed this handout with essential information regarding various types of racism, its prevalence in Canada, specifically in BC, and its implications for the broader settlement sector. The handout provides comprehensive definitions, key concepts, and resources to support organizational, institutional, and program-level initiatives aimed at addressing racism.
Disclaimer: Please note that this handout may contain content that those experiencing compounding racism, may find distressing or difficult to discuss.
