The AMSSATalk on the topic of “Honouring Indigenous Laws and Protocols” was held live in AMSSA’s office on January 22nd, 2026. Facilitated by artist and cultural facilitator Sussan Yáñez, this AMSSATalk made space for a discussion on the ways in which Indigenous protocols relate to the work of the settlement and integration sector–especially the settlement of newcomers on the unceded and traditional lands of many Indigenous groups. Accompanying Sussan for this discussion were Hereditary Chief and Trained Museum Curator and Educator Chief Dr. Janice George, and Wet’suwet’en Community Planner and Artist Jolene Andrew.
The dialogue between these three speakers touched on many ways in which settlement sector organizations can reframe their work within the context of the land on which they operate, and within Indigenous laws and protocols, in order for settlement work to be better grounded in relational practice.
