ABOUT THE PROJECT
Supporting displaced newcomer families and individuals in need is a powerful way to help them rebuild their lives in safety, dignity and hope. The Canadian Humanitarian Assistance Response (CHAR), a project of AMSSA’s National Sector Engagement program, is a national network of community-based service providing organizations, and provides a framework for essential supports to reach newcomers in need across the country. This collaboration offers a lifeline to those in need, fostering communities where displaced people are welcomed, supported, and empowered to rebuild their lives.
CHAR is an entity dedicated to coordinating the response to humanitarian emergencies affecting those accessing Canada’s Settlement Sector distributing vital information and policy updates to ensure all parties are well informed. Through a collaborative approach with partners, CHAR identifies the needs, challenges, successes, trends and predictions of humanitarian efforts providing valuable insights to policymakers.
Additionally, CHAR offers a platform for receiving and equitably distributing donations across Canada. The CHAR website provides relevant information, such as FAQs, policy updates, and federal and Provincial/Territorial guidelines to support the humanitarian community.
