Vancouver Foundation’s Fresh Voices presents A FREE 2-day Event made by & for Immigrant and Refugee Youth in B.C.

WHAT
The Fresh Voices Forum is a unique opportunity for young people to speak directly to diverse stakeholders including government officials, service providers, community leaders and most importantly, other young people! The goal of the forum is to bring newcomer young people, adults and decision-makers together in a respectful environment of listening and learning from each other.
In other words

• Do you want to make a difference in the lives of immigrant and refugee communities?
• Do you think it’s important for immigrant and refugee youth to have a say in the decisions that impact our diverse communities?
• Do you want to influence how government leaders, people in positions of power, community workers and teachers think and act when it comes to your ideas and concerns?If you said yes, then register for the Fresh Voices Forum!

WHEN
Sunday, December 4th and Monday, December 5th from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
Optional – Evening Social Reception. Youth are also invited to attend the social evening on Sunday December 4th.
** If you are an adult who will not be accompanying youth to the event, please indicate your interest in attending on Monday by contacting us at freshvoices@vancouverfoundation.ca**

The event is free and we provide:

• Lunch and snacks throughout both days
• Letters to school and family seeking permission to attend and be excused from classes for Monday
• An amazing learning and leadership opportunity
• An opportunity to meet other leaders, activists, and artists.
• Fun, Prizes and meeting new friends.

EVERYONE IS WELCOME

if capacity is reached priority will be given to:

• Racialized* immigrant and refugee youth
• Those who can make a commitment to attend the full event (both days)
• Immigrant & refugee youth from across BC, aged 16 – 25 years
  People supporting youth to attend (for example, youth workers and settlement workers)

Remember, the deadline to apply is November 25th.
Because we have limited space, those who have been selected will be notified by November 29th, and also receive permission letters to notify their school and family of their participation.

IMPORTANT TO KNOW
We’re not looking for youth with the best grades or the best public speaking skills. We want youth with diverse backgrounds and opinions, who want to make a difference in their communities, and who want to meet other youth and adults who share common interests and concerns.

ABOUT FRESH VOICES
The Fresh Voices from Long Journeys is an initiative within the Youth Engagement team of the Grants & Community Initiatives Department at Vancouver Foundation. The initiative works closely with partners and their programs that provide services or leadership opportunities for immigrant and refugee youth. In order to achieve its goals, the initiative engages diverse young people from racialized migrant communities, and their allies, and collaborates with policy makers and diverse stakeholders. Fresh Voices offers a way for immigrant and refugee youth from across B.C. to engage in dialogue and action to identify and remove barriers to their success.
