BC’s New Lobbying Law: Are You Compliance Ready? | An AMSSA Members Only Webinar
British Columbia’s new lobbying law came into force on May 4, 2020. The law establishes new reporting requirements, new filing deadlines, and new ethical rules.
One of the most significant changes is the elimination of the 100-hour lobbying threshold. In the past, this threshold allowed many not-for-profit organizations to lobby without being registered. Moving forward, almost all not-for-profit organizations will be required to register with the Office of the Registrar of Lobbyists for BC.
“Lobbying” is defined broadly in British Columbia. It includes attempting to influence government decisions, such as legislative proposals, bills, resolutions, regulations, programs, policies, directives and guidelines. It also includes seeking government contracts, grants and financial benefits.
Exclusive to AMSSA members, this webinar will offer sector-specific information and Q&A.
About the Speaker:
Kyle Morrow is a lawyer with Fasken Martineau DuMoulin LLP. He advises clients on their compliance obligations at the municipal, provincial and federal levels of government in the areas of lobbying, conflicts of interest, campaign finance, anti-bribery and corruption, whistleblowing, and procurement integrity.
