Celebrating World Refugee Day

On World Refugee Day, we celebrate the resilience of approximately 80 million displaced people from around the world as a result of conflict persecution, human rights violations and violence (UNHCR, 2021). We acknowledge and honour the courage and strength of refugees and displaced people who have been forced to leave their homes in order to build better futures for themselves. Those refugees and displaced people who now call Canada home have contributed immeasurably to the fabric of Canada’s culture, economy, and diversity.
We support this year’s World Refugee Day theme Together we heal, learn and shine advocating for and aiding refugees across the globe to be protected and included in healthcare, education and sport (UNHCR, 2021). Everyone has rights, needs and aspirations and deserve to live safely with dignity.
Thank you to British Columbians and member organizations who foster refugees’ inclusion into our communities and provide support to refugees and displaced people as they navigate life in B.C.
Together with refugees. Together we heal, learn and shine (UNHCR, 2021).
