Media Advisory: Open Letter to Leaders Calls for Unifying Vision for Immigration

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: April 15, 2025

MEDIA ADVISORY

National Coalition Releases Open Letter to Federal Leaders
Calling for Unifying Vision for Immigration

WHAT: A coalition of over 100 community and business groups across the country today released an open letter calling on federal leaders to commit to renewing a positive vision for immigration that is unifying and creates shared economic progress. The letter outlines five core principles to guide a vision, including “counter and repudiate anti-immigration rhetoric” in the face of rising anti-immigrant sentiment.

WHERE: Open Letter: believe-in-canada.ca (french: believe-in-canada.ca/fr/)

WHEN: Public launch, today, is expected to grow the list of signatories, an effort that will continue beyond election day.

WHO: Full list of signatories here (updated daily)

Available for interviews:

● Katie Crocker, CEO, AMSSA
    ○ can speak to settlement services, policy and community services broadly

● Jonathan Oldman, CEO, ISSofBC
    ○ can speak to settlement services and policy

● Devika Ramkhelawan, Executive Director, Mount Pleasant Neighbourhood House
    ○ can speak to community-based, integrated services and unique impacts on racialized newcomers

● Patrick MacKenzie, CEO, IECBC (bilingual).
    ○ can speak to intersection of immigration and economy

● Stephan Reichhold, Directeur général, TCRI (francophone)
    ○ can speak to settlement services and policy in Quebec

WHY: An election is a critical time to highlight the reciprocal relationship between immigration and a strong economy while addressing trends in rising anti-immigrant sentiment, driven by disinformation. The coalition will aim to connect with the incoming government after the election.
