AMSSA and its member agencies and stakeholders organize public community events, workshops for newcomers to Canada as well as professional development training, workshops, seminars and conferences for (re)settlement, language training diversity and inclusion sector employees. Community events and workshops which are continuous are listed below the calendar.
Settlement Services: Allies In Private Sponsorship (SPT101)
This course is for settlement professionals and other service providers who work with privately sponsored refugees and their sponsors.
In this course, you will learn the basics of private refugee sponsorship. You will also learn how to work effectively with privately sponsored newcomers, their sponsors, and other settlement professionals.
The course has five modules:
- Introduction to the Private Sponsorship of Refugees Program
- The Role of Sponsors
- Rights, Responsibilities, and Expectations of Privately Sponsored Newcomers
- IRCC Program Assurance
- The Role of Settlement Workers in Private Sponsorship
Each module includes readings, videos, activities, a quiz, a discussion forum, and extra resources to support your learning.
This is a self-study course. You can complete the course at your own pace during the 5-week course period. However, you must finish all readings, quizzes, and the final exam before the course ends.
A weekly online discussion forum is available if you would like to ask questions, share ideas, and learn with other participants and the course facilitator.
