Pathways to Prosperity 2016 National Conference

November 30, 2016 @ 8:00 am - December 2, 2016 @ 5:00 pm

Pathways to Prosperity 2016 National Conference – Shaping Immigration to Canada: Learning from the past and a vision for the future

The Pathways to Prosperity Partnership will hold its fourth annual conference at the Westin Hotel in Ottawa starting at 8:30 AM on December 1, 2016 and finishing at 5:00 PM on December 2, 2016. On November 30 we will be hosting a full-day workshop for the Local Immigration Partnerships and the Réseaux en immigration francophone.

The theme of this year’s conference is Shaping Immigration to Canada: Learning from the Past and a Vision for the Future. This is a timely theme given the revitalized immigration program being developed by the current government in consultation with stakeholders across the country.

On Thursday December 1, the conference will open with an address by the Hon. John McCallum, Minister for Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, setting the tone for our discussions of the future of Immigration to Canada.

The Conference will include plenary sessions, workshops, roundtables, poster presentations, and opportunities to network with colleagues. Topics to be covered in the plenary sessions will include:

  • The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly: What Works and What Doesn’t in Canada’s Immigration Policy
  • Canada’s Role in Refugee Resettlement: A Vision for the Future
  • A Vision for Settlement and Service Provision
  • A Vision for the Economic Integration of Immigrants
  • Creating Welcoming Communities and Combating Racism and Discrimination
  • The full-day preconference on November 30, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM, will focus on issues of central concern to the Local Immigration Partnerships and the Réseaux en immigration francophone, based on a survey of stakeholder priorities.

Who Should Attend
Attendees will include researchers, settlement agency representatives, LIP and RIF coordinators, graduate students, policy and program officials from the three orders of government, and others working in the area of immigration.
