Financial Literacy: Introduction to Banking and Credit in Canada for Migrant Workers
Understanding the banking system is an essential component of adapting to life in Canada. Newly arrived migrant workers are often unaware of how the banking system works in Canada. This places them at significant risk of fraud or making mistakes that can impact their financial situation in a negative way.
The purpose of this webinar is to provide organizations who provide support services to migrant workers with information on what newly arrived migrant workers need to be aware of when it comes to the banking system in Canada. By having this information, service providers will be better equipped to answer questions and support migrant workers to avoid potential confusion, mistakes, or fraud.
The Financial Consumer Agency of Canada will offer direction on topics such as how to build a credit history in Canada, things to be aware of when opening a bank account/dealing with banks, credit cards and other types of credits, choosing a financial advisor, and privacy and fraud risks to be aware of.
