Diversify Your Funding: Grant-Seeking and Building a Social Enterprise
Developing diverse funding sources is gaining in importance for non-profit organizations. There’s no simple formula that will apply to all organizations-a unique, tailored approach is needed to fit the size, needs and strengths of each organization. This introductory webinar will explore how two methods of diversifying an organization’s funding – grant-seeking and building a social enterprise – can have the largest impact.

Barbara McMillan
Barbara McMillan’s extensive experience as a grantor, grantee, and instructor in grantwriting provides a rich backdrop to help individuals and organizations build their capacity in grantseeking and proposal writing. Besides having assessed over 1000 grant applications, she has written many successful proposals, and has taught grantseeking for over 15 years, including the Grant and Proposal Writing Course in BCIT’s Fundraising Management Certificate Program.
Charlotte McEwen, Innoweave
Charlotte McEwen is an Innoweave Program Officer based in Toronto. Charlotte focuses on Innoweave’s Seniors SI program, which is a partnership with the Government of Canada to help communities across Canada generate, implement, and scale socially innovative community level approaches to reduce the social isolation of seniors. Prior to joining The J.W. McConnell Family Foundation to work on the Innoweave initiative, Charlotte was a consultant at Accenture focused on nonprofit clients. Charlotte holds a Bachelor of Commerce Honours degree from Queen’s University.
Irene Gannitsos, Vancity Community Foundation
Irene has over 15 years of experience in supporting and investing in the development, start-up and growth of social enterprises and the social enterprise sector. In her current role at VCF she is responsible for the strategy and execution of VCF’s strategic grant and support programs and partnerships for non-profit social enterprise and community-owned real estate. Irene sits on the board of The Cleaning Solution, a non-profit commercial cleaning business based in Vancouver that provides quality employment opportunities to people living with mental illness.
