Working with Newcomers on Unceded Territory
with Norm Leech- Part 1

Norm Leech, Executive Director of the Vancouver Aboriginal Community Policing Centre and a well-known speaker, facilitator, and storyteller, will engage IRCC funded Service Providers to talk about the experience of Indigenous people in Canada. Through this two-part presentation, Norm will engage with frontline workers and managers to reflect on the past and seek commonality for a future together. Norm will share the Indigenous way of learning and communicating, teaching the participants about Indigenous people’s relationship between genders, relationship with the written word, and their relationship to the land.

Talking about Indigenous people: What have you heard?
History and statistics
Spiritual connection to land; relationship not ownership
Timeline of colonization and inter-generational trauma
Closing meditation
