Safe Harbour: Respect for All

Twenty five percent of Vancity branches are now certified Safe Harbour locations, thanks to the leadership taken by Erin Robinson, HR and Chair of Vancity's Diversity in Action team. Refresher workshops are being delivered for Vancouver, Burnaby, and Victoria branches.

The Comox Valley Airport, our first Safe Harbour certified airport, continues to grow recognition for their involvement by publishing a full-page on their commitments in the first 2012 edition of the FLY YQQ, an informative newsletter aimed at stakeholders. Read the FLY YQQ newsletter here.

A Safe Harbour: Respect for All Chai Time Session series brought together Safe Harbour location staff and community members in Mission to discuss diversity-related topics and enjoy samosas, Indian masala chai and Chinese herbal tea. A Chai Time was held on February 7th, 2012 with the theme "Respect for Seniors", organized by Mission Community Services Society.

Koyali Burman with South Vancouver Neighbourhood House delivered an engaging refresher Safe Harbour workshop with a dozen West End Safe Harbour locations, including the Joe Fortes Branch of the Vancouver Public Library and Plum Living Properties & Health Services.

"Even though the concept of 'respect for all' is a simple one, the workshop makes it more tangible and gets you thinking and considering lots of different aspects that go along with the respect and treatment of people in general."
