This change can affect an individual\u2019s sense of belonging and create feelings of disconnect from cultural upbringing and traditions. Art in different forms, in time of this change, is often used as an outlet and method to process their settlement journeys. Additionally, art is used as a form of cultural exchange, bringing and sharing pieces of their traditions and culture with their new communities.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">This AMSSATalk will bring together newcomer artists to discuss the impact of art as a form of cultural exchange when settling into B.C. She is renowned for curating thought-provoking exhibitions that highlight the stories of immigrants and the work of marginalized artists, particularly in response to anti-Muslim racism and xenophobia. Through her art, Samji delves into themes of identity, pluralism, and shared perspectives. Over her career she has garnered numerous &nbsp;for her contributions to the arts. &nbsp;As a dedicated community leader, Samji serves on various boards, mentors emerging artists, and advocates for underrepresented voices in the local art scene. She continually seeks innovative ways to uplift, inspire, educate, and heal through her creative endeavors.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>PANELISTS<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Adriana Contreras Correal<\/strong> is an Interdisciplinary Artist, bilingual Graphic Recorder and Illustrator (English and Spanish), and dedicated auntie, born in Bogot\u00e1, Colombia, living respect and gratitude on the traditional unceded territory of the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh &nbsp;Nations. Artistic expression has always been a central part of Adriana&rsquo;s life but became an essential tool for navigating the world as a first-generation immigrant.<\/p>\n<p>Her migration journey profoundly informs her work and commitment to social justice at a local and global level. Her role as a Visual Practitioner is to witness, listen deeply, gather information, connect ideas and tell stories. Graphic Recording serves as a living memory of the time we share in dialogue; it is a form of harvesting and mapping of collective wisdom, stories, reflections, questions, and commitments to future action.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">Adriana completed her BFA at SFU&rsquo;s School for the Contemporary Arts in 2006 and has worked and volunteered at numerous Arts and community-based organizations for over 20 years. She is the founder of MareVerso Creative.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Taraneh Mousavi<\/strong> is an Iranian vocalist, composer, and artist recognized for her unique blend of Iranian folk music, alternative jazz, and evocative poetry. She holds a bachelor\u2019s degree from Hochschule f\u00fcr Musik und Tanz &nbsp;K\u00f6ln (Cologne, Germany) and a master\u2019s in Global Jazz from Berklee College of Music (Boston, USA), where she studied on a full scholarship. Taraneh\u2019s work explores profound themes of identity, belonging, and transformation. Her upcoming EP, Home Is a River, offers an intimate reflection on the shifting meaning of home and the emotional journey of immigration.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Walid Azizi<\/strong> is a Youth Equity Worker with SWIS (Settlement Workers in Schools) program at Impact North Shore, a non-profit organization providing services for newcomers and im\/migrants and promoting inclusive community building. Born and raised in Afghanistan, Walid is the founding member and director of Camp Afghanistan; an initiative focused on empowering Afghan youth through education, leadership, and art. The camp incorporates arts sessions and features local artists, emphasizing the role of art and education in creating spaces for intercultural dialogue and social change. With a background in History (Miami University) and International Politics (American University of Central Asia), Walid has been actively involved in international platforms and conferences, presenting on the transformative role of art in societal development. He has a deep appreciation for art in various forms, particularly literature, poetry, and music \u2013 resonating with Van Gogh\u2019s perspective: Even in the face of adversity, there still remains within us calmness, pure harmony, poetry, and music.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>ADDITIONAL HIGHLIGHTED ARTISTS<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Hasan Al-Saleh<\/strong> was born in the historic city of Damascus, known for its ancient monuments. Since childhood, he has loved drawing and creating art with wood. Drawing remained a hobby of his until he finished high school. Hasan wanted to study at the Faculty of Fine Arts, but it wasn\u2019t possible due to my circumstances. Over time, art and drawing became a big part of his life. He especially enjoys drawing ancient monuments that tell stories from history and scenes from nature.<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;-<\/p>\n<p>Le parcours d\u2019\u00e9tablissement des nouveaux arrivants se caract\u00e9rise souvent par une p\u00e9riode de changement et d\u2019adaptation \u00e0 une nouvelle communaut\u00e9 et \u00e0 un nouveau mode de vie. Ce changement peut avoir des r\u00e9percussions sur le sentiment d\u2019appartenance d\u2019un individu et g\u00e9n\u00e9rer un sentiment de d\u00e9connexion par rapport \u00e0 la culture et aux traditions. En p\u00e9riode de changement, l\u2019art, sous ses diff\u00e9rentes formes, est souvent utilis\u00e9 comme un exutoire et une fa\u00e7on de surmonter les \u00e9preuves li\u00e9es au parcours d\u2019\u00e9tablissement. En outre, l\u2019art contribue \u00e0 une forme d\u2019\u00e9change culturel, o\u00f9 chaque personne transmet certaines traditions et certains \u00e9l\u00e9ments de leur culture avec sa nouvelle communaut\u00e9.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">Ce panel AMSSATalk r\u00e9unira des artistes qui ont r\u00e9cemment immigr\u00e9 au pays pour discuter de la fa\u00e7on dont l\u2019art peut agir comme un vecteur d\u2019\u00e9changes culturels pour les nouveaux arrivants qui s\u2019\u00e9tablissent en Colombie-Britannique. Elle est r\u00e9put\u00e9e pour organiser des expositions qui mettent en lumi\u00e8re les histoires de personnes immigrantes et le travail d\u2019artistes marginalis\u00e9s, et qui am\u00e8nent \u00e0 r\u00e9fl\u00e9chir, notamment sur le racisme envers les personnes musulmanes et la x\u00e9nophobie. \u00c0 travers son art, Samji plonge dans les th\u00e8mes de l\u2019identit\u00e9, du pluralisme et des perspectives communes. Au cours de sa carri\u00e8re, elle a re\u00e7u de nombreuses r\u00e9compenses pour sa contribution aux arts. La facilitation graphique agit comme la m\u00e9moire vivante de nos \u00e9changes. C\u2019est une mani\u00e8re de r\u00e9colter et de cartographier la sagesse collective, les histoires, les r\u00e9flexions, les enjeux et les engagements envers l\u2019avenir. Adriana a obtenu un baccalaur\u00e9at en beaux-arts de la Facult\u00e9 des arts contemporains de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 Simon Fraser en 2006. Faisant \u00e9cho \u00e0 une citation de Van Gogh, il affirme : \u00ab m\u00eame si nous sommes au plus profond de la mis\u00e8re, il y a encore du calme, de l\u2019harmonie pure et de la musique en nous.<\/p>\n<p><strong>AUTRES ARTISTES MIS EN AVANT<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Hasan Al-Saleh<\/strong> est n\u00e9 dans la ville historique de Damas, connue pour ses monuments historiques. Depuis son enfance, Hasan adore dessiner et cr\u00e9er des \u0153uvres d\u2019art avec du bois. Le dessin est demeur\u00e9 l\u2019un de ses passe-temps pr\u00e9f\u00e9r\u00e9s jusqu\u2019\u00e0 la fin de ses \u00e9tudes secondaires. Il aurait voulu \u00e9tudier \u00e0 la facult\u00e9 des beaux-arts, mais cela n\u2019a pas \u00e9t\u00e9 possible en raison de sa situation. Au fil du temps, l\u2019art et le dessin ont occup\u00e9 de plus en plus de place dans sa vie.
