SUMMARY:Webinar: BC Legal Aid
DESCRIPTION:Settlement service providers are often the first and main source that newcomers go to for support\, providing effective\, culturally sensitive and appropriate services and creating service linkages within their large networks to support newcomers in their myriad needs.  However\, newcomers may face challenges that require legal advice beyond the scope and ability of service providers such as child protection matters\, serious family problems and immigration and refugee issues.  As service providers meet clients with increasing complex situations\, it is important that they understand how legal aid in BC works\, when their clients need legal aid and how they can support client access to legal services.    \nThis webinar will provide service providers in all regions of the province with an understanding of the most common challenges newcomers face that may require legal aid and how service providers can support newcomers with these challenges in conjunction with the legal aid process. This session will also cover the types of legal aid offered through Legal Aid BC and the process of linking clients with Legal Aid BC.  \nEVENT DETAILS AND REGISTRATION \nDate: Wednesday\, June 18\, 2025    \nTime: 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. PST   \nLocation: Zoom Webinar - Event details will be emailed immediately after registration    \nCLICK HERE TO REGISTER\nPRESENTERS \nEduardo Aragón\nSupervisor\, Legal Aid Navigators\nPublic Legal Education and Information\nLegal Aid BC \nOriginally from El Salvador\, Eduardo came to Canada as a refugee with his family. SUMMARY:Organizational Capacity Roundtable - Succession Planning for Business Continuity
DESCRIPTION:Settlement service provider organizations continue to face challenges in the critical area of human resources capacity building. Current economic conditions such as affordability and high cost of living have exacerbated struggles related to capacity in HR\, such as stretched resources and recruitment difficulties to name a few. Settlement service providers also face the same challenges as Canada of an aging workforce. Even while baby boomers are remaining in the workforce longer\, projections show that there may be 50% more people retiring in 2025 than the average of the last 10 years. \nWhether it be for extended leaves such as parental or medical\, an unexpected departure or a planned one\, losing key staff can create several challenges for settlement service organizations. This includes leadership gaps\, loss of expertise and knowledge of the organization and uncertainty for staff and potential of low morale just to name a few challenges\, all of which affect the quality and amount of service offered. \nThis workshop will provide an understanding of the steps and considerations to succession planning\, the roles that each staff member may play in this and tips for developing a concrete succession plan. Participants will have the opportunity to reflect on their own organization’s needs and share strategies for implementing a plan. \nThis session is targeted to staff in management positions\, HR staff and Board members. \nEVENT DETAILS AND REGISTRATION \nDate: Friday\, June 20\, 2025 \nTime: 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. PST \nLocation: Zoom - Event details will be emailed immediately after registration  \nCLICK HERE TO REGISTER\nPRESENTER \nKim Vincent-Lambert\, Engaged  \nKim Vincent-Lambert is a Senior People and Culture Partner at Engaged with over 20 years of HR experience and leadership across various industries and company sizes. \nKim has a Certified Human Resource Professional (CPHR) designation and extensive certifications in Human Resource Management\, Business Management\, Project Management\, Women’s Leadership\, and Learning & Development.
