SUMMARY:Workshop - Incorporating Art in the Work with Children – Expressive Arts Therapy to Support Neurodivergent Newcomer Children
DESCRIPTION:Expressive arts therapy has shown benefits for children across various developmental stages\, as well as neurodiverse children who may struggle with traditional classroom settings and communication barriers. It allows for self-expression without the need for words\, reduces overstimulation\, and soothes the nervous systems\, encourages creativity and collaboration\, and provides a calming and structured activity that empowers children to utilize their creativity and build on their strengths.   \nThis workshop will examine the advantages of expressive arts therapy that can be applied to newcomer children from early years to school age\, who face unique challenges due to the complex emotions that may arise during their journey of settling into a new community or school. It will be an opportunity for those who work with newcomer children in the settlement sector to learn about how incorporating art and concepts of expressive arts therapy can support their work.  \nAs there will be experiential pieces in this workshop\, we invite you to prepare the following basic art materials if you wish to participate in the activities:  \n\nPaper for writing or a journal  \nPens/pencils for writing   \nBasic art materials (paper\, pastels\, markers\, pencil crayons) \n\nEVENT DETAILS AND REGISTRATION \nWorkshop: Incorporating Art in the Work with Children – Expressive Arts Therapy to Support Neurodivergent Newcomer Children   \nDate: February 24\, 2025 \nTime: 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. \nLocation:  Zoom - Event details will be emailed immediately after registration    \nCLICK HERE TO REGISTER \nSPEAKERS \nChelsea Angeles is a Certified Expressive Arts Therapist and Registered Therapeutic Counsellor with over 12 years of experience working with children in a variety of educational and therapeutic settings.
