SUMMARY:Virtual Information Session on Establishing Professional Boundaries
DESCRIPTION:Professional boundaries are an essential skill set for anyone working in direct services\, including settlement practitioners. Professional boundaries are a commonly cited occupational competency for settlement practitioners as it creates a clear understanding of the limits of the services provided\, the scope of work and the professional obligations of the staff and organization\, all which set the foundation for a better relationship between staff and clients.  \n  \nIt is understandable that settlement practitioners want to help their clients as much as possible as these clients may be vulnerable and face multiple barriers. They may feel responsibility for their client and feel empathy because they too may have once been in the same situation when they first came to Canada. However\, these are reasons why the maintenance of professional boundaries is important. When boundaries are not set and maintained\, the risks of compassion fatigue and burnout increase.  \n  \nThis session is targeted to front-line settlement workers and will provide information on setting healthy\, professional boundaries as a way to enhance service delivery and provide an understanding of the risk management considerations for settlement staff\, their organizations and clients when boundaries are not set. This session will identify the challenges to setting these boundaries and offer concrete strategies to create and maintain professional boundaries.  \nFollowing the presentations\, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a Q&A with the presenter.   \nEVENT DETAILS AND REGISTRATION \nDate: Tuesday\, December 10\, 2024     \nTime: 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. PST    \nLocation: Zoom Webinar - Event details will be emailed immediately after registration    \nCLICK HERE TO REGISTER \nPRESENTER \nMona Hassannia\, MA\, RCC   \nMona Hassannia has over 15-years of front-line and management experience in the BC settlement and integration sector working with various populations including government-assisted refugees (GARs)\, refugee claimants\, migrants\, and immigrants. She is also a Registered Clinical Counsellor\, bringing this experience into her work both as a service provider and accomplished trainer\, developing toolkits\, training and curriculum to strengthen the field. \nQUESTIONS? \nSend an email to Fernanda Hurtado at  fhurtado@amssa.org \n  \n
