SUMMARY:Virtual Information Session: Supporting Newcomers During Climate Emergencies
DESCRIPTION:In 2023\, wildfires burnt 2.84 million hectares in BC\, resulting in the evacuation of thousands of residents. SUMMARY:Online Media Event May 30th: A Collaborative Vision for Newcomer Integration in British Columbia
DESCRIPTION:An Opportunity to Develop Collaborative Solutions to Collective Problems \nDespite the ongoing debates regarding optimal immigration levels and strategy for Canada\, the economic and social well-being of communities nationwide are closely linked to the successful settlement outcomes of newcomers. \nAt this critical moment\, society is gaining momentum in exploring innovative measures to address challenges in affordability and public services. However\, the tendency among governments to treat immigrant settlement\, health\, and housing as separate policy areas risks missing opportunities to include newcomers\, especially those at the intersections of various marginalized identities. Collaboration across all levels of government and ministerial portfolios is crucial to link agendas and involve a wide range of partners in developing comprehensive initiatives that ensure inclusivity. \nImmigration benefits private sector entities not only by addressing labour shortages but also by the diversification of skills and perspectives\, fostering innovation and economic growth. \nSave the Date! \nTo discuss these opportunities and more\, we cordially invite you to an online event on May 30 for the launch of AMSSA’s provincial engagement strategy report: “A Collaborative Vision for Newcomer Integration in British Columbia: Enhancing Partnerships in Immigration and Inclusive Community Development“. \nThis event will provide an in-depth look at the future of immigration in our province and the transformative potential of strategic collaboration. \nEvent Details \nWhat: Launch of the Provincial Engagement Strategy Report: A Collaborative Vision for Newcomer Integration in British Columbia \nDate: Thursday\, May 30\, 2024 \nTime: 09:30 AM \nLocation: Zoom | Event details will be sent after registration \n\n\n\n CLICK TO REGISTER\n\n\n\n  \nQuestions \nPlease email Anaïs Bénard at abenard@amssa.org. \nWe wish to acknowledge the land AMSSA is located on is the unceded territories of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam)\, Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish)\, and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.

DESCRIPTION:Le français suit… \nThis is a 2-part webinar series. The first part will take place on May 8th and the second part will be held on May 14th. \nThose working in the Settlement and Integration sector often have access to sensitive client information including PR numbers\, addresses etc. as part of the supports provided. Accordingly\, knowing how to ensure client privacy and that the security of the information is maintained\, is crucial for mitigating risks for the organization\, both ethically and legally. \nWith many staff working in a hybrid manner\, a special attention needs to be paid to the principles of cybersecurity and data privacy when working remotely. The Settlement and Integration sector is not immune to potential data breaches\, where sensitive information is stolen. The consequences of these data breaches can have a huge impact on the client’s life in Canada\, that includes potential identity theft. \n  \nTo ensure that the B.C.’s Settlement and Integration Sector is well versed on ways to maintain privacy and security of client information\, and to mitigate the potential risks\, AMSSA is organizing this 2-part webinar series. \nSee below for webinar descriptions and registration links. Please ensure to register for both webinars\, as they will be covering different topics.  \n  \nIMPORTANT NOTE \nClient confidentiality\, privacy and security is a major part of the work that the settlement and integration sector undertakes.
