This event showcased employment opportunities available to job seekers in many diverse industries.   \nThe PICS Mega Job Fair is a flagship event for our organization. It gives job seekers the opportunity to meet employers on a one-to–one basis and discover what is available in the Labour Market in a proactive way. The job fair allows people to explore many resources available from community service providers and educational institutions.   \nThis year\, the job fair took place at the Italian Cultural Center in Vancouver where more than 5000 plus job seekers were in attendance to learn about the employment and education opportunities available in the job market. This event showcased over 80 plus employers from various industries and sectors.  \nFinding employment is a significant and meaningful step for all job seekers who are looking to establish themselves in the Labour Market. By bringing together businesses\, chambers of commerce\, educational institutions and settlement service agencies\, PICS Society aims to make the job-hunting process a bit easier through our Mega Job Fairs.  \nBurnaby Board of Trade\, President and CEO\, Paul Holden applauded PICS for the success of the Job Fair;  \n“Addressing workplace shortages is a huge challenge for businesses and an event like this job fair is a great way to introduce job seekers to employers. SUMMARY:BCSIS Virtual Information Session: Substance Misuse and Addictions
DESCRIPTION:In this Virtual Information Session\, frontline settlement staff will learn about supporting newcomers facing challenges with substance misuse and addiction. Speakers will include representatives from DIVERSECity’s Substance Use Counselling Program as well as from Roshni Clinic. \nEVENT DETAILS  \nNewcomers often suffer from complex\, overlapping mental health issues that compound social needs and affect the sufferer’s ability to cope with trauma. \nThe interconnected pressures of living with associated migratory traumas\, lower quality of life upon arrival\, and the nuanced traumas of being in a foreign country\, create a viable environment for substance misuse and addictions.  \nPresenters will provide an overview of substance use disorders\, as well as\ninformation on how to identify signs and symptoms. Attendees will learn about culturally appropriate and trauma-informed strategies to support their clients.
