SUMMARY:Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Awareness for EAL Learners Resource
DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to invite language instructors across the settlement sector\, including those teaching LINC\, ESL/EAL\, and other specialized language classes\, to the virtual launch of a newly developed Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Awareness for EAL Learners Resource. Newcomers\, immigrants\, and refugees with limited English proficiency often face significant barriers to accessing information and services related to GBV.  \nLanguage instructors play a critical role in introducing essential life information\, including safety and rights\, to newcomers in accessible and meaningful ways. Developed through the National GBV Strategy for Agencies Serving Immigrants project\, this initiative aims to support English as an Additional Language (EAL) instructors by providing a visual\, simplified language curriculum to increase awareness and understanding of GBV among newcomers with limited English skills. The resource uses a trauma- and violence-informed approach and is responsive to the diverse cultural and linguistic contexts of newcomer\, immigrant\, and refugee learners. \nThis session will introduce the resource\, share insights from the development process\, and highlight ways to integrate it into different language-learning contexts.
