SUMMARY:Prism Education Series - Transgender Inclusion 101
DESCRIPTION:Trans Inclusion 101- With Nikki Zawadzki and Kelendria Nation \nThis session will focus on developing skills to welcome and support trans and gender diverse individuals in a variety of social service and\nhealthcare settings. The goal of this session is to increase safety and access to services for trans and gender diverse individuals\, in order to promote health and wellness. \nTarget audience: Nurses\, physicians\, social workers\, counsellors\, mental health and addiction workers\, housing workers\, outreach teams\, shelter staff\, etc. In addition\, we strongly encourage managers\, supervisors\, directors and administrative/support staff to attend. Students and volunteers working in the health and social service field are also welcome. \n*This session is free of charge\, but registration is required. Please cancel your registration if you are unable to attend as we have a wait list. \nThis session will cover: \n\nthe difference between gender identity and sexual orientation\nlanguage & key concepts relating to trans people\nwhat transition may involve & issues unique to trans individuals\nintersectionality\, colonization and marginalized identities\nsocietal discrimination and family rejection\nreview of current health literature\nallyship for non-LGBT2Q+ folks\ncreating more inclusive environments\ngender –affirming policy and practice recommendations\navailable resources\n\nRegister by clicking here. \nAccessibility: \nThe Eye Care Centre is a fragrance free space; please refrain from wearing perfume\, cologne or other scented products. \nThe Eye Care Centre is wheelchair accessible. \nIf you require ASL\, or other accomodations\, please email prism@vch.ca \nAlso\, there is absolutely no food or drink permitted in the auditorium.
