SUMMARY:AMSSA Webinar - Dynamic Workshops: The Fundamental of Curriculum Development
DESCRIPTION:For Settlement Workers who spend most of their time working one-to-one with clients\, the development of workshops to support groups of newcomers can be challenging. This webinar will provide a practical overview of curriculum and approaches\, the planning process and items to consider when developing a curriculum framework for settlement services delivery. An ESL professional\, who has taught in Thailand\, France\, Norway and the Philippines\, Carole is also an immigrant to Canada. Since 2008\, she has worked with immigrants in Whistler and Pemberton as Program Manager of the provincially-funded ESL Settlement Assistance Program\, Welcoming Communities projects\, and the Welcome Sea to Sky project funded by the SMART Fund\, Vancouver Coastal Health to develop coping\, advocacy and leadership skills in immigrants. Continuing under IRCC funding\, Carole is now Program Manager of Whistler Pemberton Immigrant Settlement Services\, supporting a team of settlement and outreach workers across the Sea to Sky and Sunshine Coast region. She also sits on the Board of the Community Foundation of Whistler as a champion of diversity in the local community. \nCase Study Presenter: \nLisa Herrera\, MA\, Education Administration & Leadership\, ISSofBC\nLisa Herrera taught in the LINC/ELSA program at ISSofBC for 15 years and for the last 8 years has been the Lead Instructional Coordinator for the program. She is also a Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) Lead Trainer\, and a Regional Coach for the national implementation of Portfolio Based Language Assessment (PBLA) in LINC. She has a Master of Educational Administration and Leadership degree from UBC. \n
