Organizing Safe Harbours in Your Community

For a B.C. community to join the Safe Harbour movement, there must first be a committed Community Organizer to publicize, recruit, train and sustain momentum. Whether you are a volunteer, university student, or a paid organizer, that person just might be you!

To support your efforts, AMSSA has developed a Community Organizer’s Manual with clear instructions on successfully implementing the Safe Harbour Program in your own community.

AMSSA also provides a Safe Harbour Curriculum, a Participant’s Workbook, window decals, posters, brochures, postcards, bookmarks, references to emergency service providers, and other resources.

In order for the Safe Harbour program to retain its core messaging and achieve its stated goals, the integrity of key documents and graphics must be protected. Local storefronts may only display the Safe Harbour logo if they have completed a 2-hour orientation session and made the three key commitments.

All Community Organizers formally commit to AMSSA that they will hold to key principles when implementing the Safe Harbour program in their communities.

There are currently 22 Community Organizers across the province who are contributing their energy and expertise to expanding the Safe Harbour Program and creating a more inclusive environment that welcomes the range of diversity of all citizens.
