Safe Harbour: Respect for All is about a vision in action: creating opportunities for storefront businesses, institutions, agencies, and entire municipalities to celebrate our differences, helping to create safer, more welcoming communities that support diversity and reject discrimination.

New!
AMSSA welcomes Canada Safeway stores across BC to the Safe Harbour: Respect for All program. Safeway staff have indicated their enthusiasm for Safe Harbour and its message of respect for diversity in workshops delivered in Vancouver, Burnaby, Chilliwack, and Powell River. Look out for the Safe Harbour logo in a Safeway near you.

The Safe Harbour: Respect for All television Public Service Announcement is now being broadcast on Shaw Cable in the Greater Vancouver region, the Fraser Valley, and Vancouver Island. Please look out for our 30-second spot and tell us what you think.

Our three radio Public Service Announcements are available below. They focus on various forms of discrimination and asks listeners: "What would YOU do if you were this witness?"

Safe Harbour-certified locations are equipped with the knowledge to better understand their diverse workforce and improve their service to diverse customers and clients.

Canada Safeway, RONA, TD Canada Trust, Royal Bank, Vancity, London Drugs, the YMCA, and the David Suzuki Foundation are a sample of the Safe Harbour-certified Locations committed to Safe Harbour: Respect for All across 26 BC communities. They are leaders in their dedication to providing an inclusive workplace environment and promoting diversity in their communities by following these three simple commitments:

Bullet Equitable Treatment for All: welcoming all clients and/or customers in a respectful manner. If a concern is expressed regarding a lack of respectful treatment, employers and staff take steps to address it.

BulletAn Immediate Safe Place: providing an immediate safe place for someone experiencing discrimination in or near the worksite which may include a place to sit, a glass of water, a phone to use, and access to a list of resources.

BulletPrepared Employees and Worksites: preparing all staff to implement these commitments.

Safe Harbour Locations offer immediate and temporary safe refuge from mistreatment. Staff are also prepared to respond to discrimination. Please see Anti-Discrimination Responses for more details.
