Newcomers to Canada, particularly Government Assisted Refugees and Refugee Claimants, face unprecedented housing needs while also being overlooked in provincial housing planning. The Affiliation of Multicultural Societies and Service Agencies of BC (AMSSA) and BC Non-Profit Housing Association have partnered to share a new report exploring these issues and provides recommendations to address these challenges.
The Examination of the Most Acute Housing Needs of BC’s Newcomers: A Refugee Housing Strategy finds that refugee-led renter households are twice as likely to experience core housing needs compared to other immigrant households. Given the unique barriers faced by refugees, it is essential to develop tailored strategies that effectively support their housing needs.
