Racism Sucks Project Background
The ideas, strategies and creative campaign materials in this booklet were developed by the Affiliation of Multicultural Societies and Service Agencies of BC (AMSSA) and a group of youth from across BC. It was designed to help youth organizers plan anti-racism activities in schools, social networks and communities.
More than a dozen youth representing multicultural agencies across the province came together for a full day of creative brainstorming and planning in December 2003, in preparation for the International Day for the Elimination of Racism on March 21. A smaller group of youth advisors continued helping shape the ideas in this booklet throughout the winter of 2004.
You can use this booklet in a couple of ways. You can read it for tips on organizing a campaign, step by step. Or, you can pick just one of the ideas in the activities section, and use this guide to help you organize that activity inside or outside of your school.
Feel free to use all of the resources on this page, share them, turn them into stickers and patches, and generally spread the word in your efforts to address racism in BC. They are tools, intended to provoke discussion, get people thinking, and possibly have a little educational fun in the process.
