Mounted as part of Multiculturalism Week, AMSSA's Multicultural Health Committee along
with many community partners, presented Partnering in Health: A Multicultural Health Fair on February 17,2005.
The morning provided an opportunity for over 150 representatives from health care institutions, community agencies
and immigrant settlement organizations to network, share ideas and resources and address critical concerns
about the experiences that immigrants and ethnocultural communities have with Canadian health services.
The afternoon was a well-attended public festival, with multi-lingual dialogue sessions on topics such as heart
disease and diabetes as well as a range of interactive health related tests and activities.
The Healthfair was a starting point. Further work toward a formal partnership framework among government,
health and community organizations is underway, with the goal of accessible, culturally competent health care.
