It is a project of PHSA Mental Health Services, supported by PHSA's Provincial Language Service and Immigrant Services Society of BC. Description:

The Provincial Language Service (PLS) is a centrally managed and coordinated interpreter and translation service operated by the Provincial Health Services Authority. Our mandate is “to provide equitable and enhanced language services that are effective and efficient for all BC Health Care” – that is, ensuring that health clients with limited-English-proficiency can access health services wherever they are in the province. The PLS works to achieve this goal by developing strategic partnerships with other health authorities and community service agencies, and by employing best practices and state-of-the-art technology and systems.

The PLS helps agencies focus resources on patient care by reducing administrative duplication and costs. We ensure access to health services in smaller communities by partnering with local community service agencies. Additionally, the PLS promotes accountability by establishing and maintaining quality standards and by providing critical performance data for managers on service levels and costs.
